Butterfly Gala and more

Butterflies are so uplifting with a promise of Spring so I just had to get busy and see what I could create.

So many colors to choose from for the first card  but landed on shades of  ‘Calypso Coral, Light Daffodil Yellow, Light Old Olive and  Granny Apple Green.’   So yummy and best part is I got the gorgeous ‘Grapefruit Grove’ foil and ‘Botanical Butterfly’ designer series paper free.. (more about that later.)

I cut the butterflies from the ‘Botanical Butterfly ‘designer series paper and layered two of each butterfly on top of each other.   I stamped, cut and colored the small butterflies to match the ones I cut out from the printed designs.  You can then lift the wings up a bit to really help those butterflies pop off the card!   Put them aside until later in the process.

Start with a  5 1/2 x 4 1/4 ” piece of ‘Calypso Coral’  cardstock and glue to the front of a ‘Whisper White’ A2 card base (5 1/2 x 4/14″.)  Layer up with foil and cardstock. (Cut with the two largest ‘Stitched Rectangles’dies.)  Cut a stitched oval from the same designer paper in greens and glue on top of the apple green piece which is embossed with a ‘Basket Weave’ pattern.   Add the white dotted strips for a top layer to move your eye through the piece.

Glue down the butterflies and sentiment (non SU)  and there you have it.

Wanted to also try two cards with a slight variation on each and went for shades of purple.   Used the same ‘Botanical Butterfly’ paper on one and  ‘Brusho Colour’ powders on the second one.

Added the ‘Butterfly Beauty’ die cuts.  One cut from the’Myths and Magic’ glimmer paper in a sparkly white (the pictures don’t do this justice) and a second die cut in ‘Highland Heather’cardstock.  Stacked the two cuts which added so much to the design dimension and love seeing through to the back piece.

Layer it all up and attach the diecuts with a sentiment…and you have a beautiful card made in just about 10 mins.  How great is that!

So what do you think?  Which one do you like?   If you have used any of these items  post pix..would love to see your creations.  Also, if you like what you are seeing, please like and share with your friends.

Animal Outing

img_1846

I was inspired by a thank you card my friend Merrilee sent me and one I saw online and soon afterwards had a request for some cards with animals.  I used the ‘Animal Outing’ bundle, cased the cards and created some paper confections of my own.

These cards were easy and quick. Simply use Versamark ink to stamp a branch background. Then stamp the Rhino, color with your ‘Stampin’ Blends’, die cut and pop up on a white piece of cardstock. Layer and stamp a sentiment…and you are good to go!

img_1847.jpg

This card was layered like the last except I added a giraffe and branch with a frog. The ‘Tropical Escape Designer Series Paper’ was used for the background and the coral was left over from a card pack I earned free in the Sale a Bration event this year.

Used watercolor paper for the animals and branch. Not only did it make watercoloring easy but gave a bit of weight to the images. Then propped up the rhino with dimensionals and put all the pieces together.

Love shaker cards and kids like cards that are interactive.  So, with the help of ‘Tropical Escape’  DSP and die cuts from the set I layered the card up.

  • Cut out three pieces of Designer Series Paper
    •      One is  5 1/2 x 4/1/4″ and glued to the card base
    •      The other two are for the shaker portion of the card
      •    One 4 1/2 x 3 1/4″ and one a quarter inch smaller on all sides
  • Glue  and center the 4 1/2 x 3/14 sheet to the base
  • Die cut an oval shape into the smallest piece of Designer Paper (see pix above)
    •   Glue an acrylic piece to the opening to create a window
    •   Stamp a sentiment in the lower right

Tip:  When you cut out the oval for the shaker window, also cut out a piece of craft foam. and glue together with the acrylic piece sandwiched in between the two pieces.   It will give you the barrier you need to create the shaker part of the card and will go though the mail easily.

  • Die cut the animals and color up using Stampin’Blends
  • Glue the giraffe behind the acrylic oval cut out
  • Glue  down a few sprinkle embellishments and make a little pile in the center of the  bottom side of the acrylic sheet to let fall loose in the shaker part of the card.
  • Glue the 4 1/2 x 3 1/4 ” sheet  to the top sheet being careful to trap in the loose embellishments inside.
    • Once dried, glue to base of card
  • Finish off by attaching the branch and rhino to the card

Here’s another example that can be made into a shaker card or dimensional card.  This one I found online and had to give it a go.  Changed up the greenery and used what I had on hand.  If you want more information, let me know.

Dandelion Wishes

IMG_E1795

Took a walk and was soaking up the last days of Summer when I came across a field of dandelions. Remember days gone by when you picked them and blew them in the air and made a wish?  I used this inspiration to create some cards and the Dandelion Wishes stamp set was perfect!

I wanted to capture some of the the colors of Summer and used Brusho Crystal Colours for the background to do that.  They are flaked watercolors & so fun and simple to use with extraordinary results.  Simply spritz watercolor paper with water and sprinkle on the color of your choice…then watch the magic happen.  The colors spread and you get a wonderful display of color. Let your creativity take over with layering colors for a custom result.  It only takes a tiny bit of sprinkled color so use sparingly.  If you want a more watery look, take a bit more  water to the surface.  hint: tape watercolor paper down until dry to minimize paper warping.

Tried another technique on these cards with the Swirly Frames set…stamping outside the lines!  If you look real close you can see the swirly frame stamped under the taped area of the above pictures.   After the brusho piece here is what you do:

*Cut a piece of cardstock sized to be the back layer (to later attach to the base of the card.)

* Layer the top brusho piece on the back layer and decide where the stamped image will be.  You will glue later.

*Use the Stamparatus and stamp the Dandelion Wishes image on the back layer first.

*Realign the Brusho layer on top and stamp the dandelion design again.  (Just follow the picture.)

*Stamp desired sentiment either directly on the card or on a banner. Emboss.

*Glue layers to a card base and affix sentiment.  As seen in examples, you can put dimentionals on pieces you want highlighted.

Better With You

Back from the craft show and was out on the back porch soaking up the Summer warmth and  listening to the birds chirping.  Inspired me to make a bird themed card and saw a great example online using the ‘Better with You’ stamp set.

Tried it out and put my spin on the cards and gave watercoloring a try.  If you have this set would love it if you would share your creations.
